Pruning
There is an old saying that a bird should be able to fly through your tree. Young fruit trees are ideally shaped and trained at an early age to not only help the bird fly through but also sunlight and airflow. And nothing beats ripe fruit within reach. But most of the time we have old favorites growing that need a little TLC that annual pruning, mulching and feeding can help bring back into productive health. Ecologia offers pruning services to young and old alike, small to medium trees, shrubs, vines and espalier fruits. Ideally check in with us before Spring gets underway as late winter is the best season for pruning.
Mulching
Another favorite adage is that the most important year in a trees life is the one before it goes in the ground. Tree care begins in the soil and works its way up. Advance soil conditioning by thick mulch layering known as sheet mulching or cover crops will begin the ecological process of healthy soil. We have designed a custom deluxe mulch for tree planting that incorporates nutrient layers, beneficial fungi and bacteria that will continue to feed your soil and tree for years to come.
Organic Fertilizing
Natural fertilization with organic amendments are a key part of our program to develop strong root systems and healthy plants. In addition, we do foliar feedings using such products as compost tea and sea kelp, and perform soil drenches with mycorrhizae (beneficial fungi). Our organic care generates healthy soil biota that will dramatically enhance the life of your plants and landscape.
Tree Paint
The white tree paint shown in this image is a technique for preserving the health of your fruit trees with a multifunctional biodynamic “paint”. The tree paint is multifunctional topical forming a biodegradable skin that persists for a season. Each component mixed into the paint benefits the fruit tree in a different way. It is good to paint your trees annually for best results. Also note the hardware cloth mesh around base to deter mice and co. from eating bark.
